The Coplow Centre

The Coplow Centre, located in the village of Billesdon, is a multi-functional community facility in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside. With a large and adaptable main hall, a separate meeting room, a professional standard kitchen and parking for 50 cars, it is ideal setting for all kinds of gatherings – celebrations, sporting events, parties and theatre performances, as well as regular meetings for clubs and societies. The Centre is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Rooms

Hall

The 16x10m main hall is the heart of The Coplow Centre. The room has been constructed to offer the most flexibility for the space. The composite wood block floor has been marked out as a badminton court, but this is also an ideal surface for other sporting activities, dancing, parties and celebrations of all kinds.

One end of the room is a raised 6x5m stage with lighting and radio microphone facilities suitable for musical and theatre productions, plus a proper proscenium arch and curtains. There are enough chairs available in the Centre for the audience to fill the auditorium.

With controllable heating and lighting, hatch access to the kitchen and a ceiling mounted frame for the erection of an internal marquee, the main hall can be dressed for any style of celebration – weddings, anniversaries, parties or children’s events.

If you are planning an event that needs a large space, the Coplow Centre main hall is probably one of the most flexible spaces in rural Leicestershire.

Lounge

The lounge/bar area is a smaller, more intimate space designed for social gatherings, meetings and small events. The bar can have a good range of drinks available and is connected to the kitchen so that meals can be served if required.

The room is comfortably carpeted, with chairs and tables that can be laid out as appropriate to the meeting, and has large viewing windows into the main hall and the outside of the building.

The room has a permanent ceiling mounted HD projector and screen.

Well lit and temperature controlled, the lounge is used by the local Bridge club and for meetings of various clubs and societies in the area. It can be organised to accommodate everything from a public presentation to a polling station, and as a quiet refuge for parents when there is a children’s party in the main hall.

Maximum capacity seated – 50

Outside Court

This is a multi-use tarmac area that is marked out for tennis, 5-a-side football, netball and basketball. The goals and netball posts are available on the court.

It is surrounded by a high net fence and is fitted with rebound boards. It can be used at any time of year as it has floodlights which are operated by a card system. The cards can be purchased from Don’s shop in the village square, so that the Centre itself does not have to be open for the outside Court to be available. The card meter is situated on the outside wall on the east side of the building. Each card lasts 30minutes, the halogen lights take 2-3mins to warm up and if the lights go out and another card inserted there is a delay before the lights work again. You can enter 2 cards consecutively if you wish to play for 60mins and not be interupted by the lights going out after 30mins.

If the court is required on a specific day, then to ensure guaranteed access to the court at this time, it is advisable to ‘book’ the court in advance. At all other times when the court is not ‘booked-out’ the use of this court is on a ‘first-come first-use’ basis. There is no public calendar currently available for ad-hoc users to check the pre-booked sessions of the court. Should a pre-booked party arrive to use the court when you are occupying the court we would be grateful if you would kindly vacate the court for the booked user. Currently Netball players play on a regular basis every Wednesday from 18:00-19:00hrs.

This Court is unsupervised and players using this court do so at their own risk. The Court can be slippery when wet and caution is needed when used.Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.

We would request that you respect the provision of this facility and that you will leave them as you find them for the next users of the court.Your help in this would be much appreciated.
