Old Church Rooms / Hen Ysgoldy'r Eglwys

The Old Church Rooms are at Park Road, Radyr, Cardiff CF15 8DF. 

The building is owned by Radyr and Morganstown Community Council - and is used by the community for a wide range of events and activities, such as children’s parties, nursery groups, wedding receptions, celebrations, meetings, conferences, activity groups and rehearsals for concerts and plays. 

The hall is run by a management team, made up of members of the Community Council and the Radyr & Morganstown Association.

The OCR consist of two main halls (the Garth Room and the Weir Room) and two meeting rooms (the Castle Room and the Chain Room), which are all available for hire. Scroll down this section to see details and charges for the four rooms.

Rooms


Garth Room

This is the Main Hall. It can accommodate up to 80 people - and has a small stage, a sound system and theatre lighting. Tables and chairs are available, to accommodate up to 80 people. The hall can be set out theatre or cabaret style. The hall also has a large projector screen and an electric piano. Next to the Main Hall is the kitchen, which has extensive facilities for the preparation and storage of food. A small cloakroom / cupboard is available in the hallway outside the Garth Room. This room has disabled access.

Hire rates (excluding VAT):

Any organisation or person charging the public for services they provide in the OCR: £6.25


Businesses and public bodies using the OCR for reasons other than providing services to the public in the OCR: £25.00


Family and private events organised by members of the public: £12.50


Everyone else: £8.50

PLEASE NOTE: When you book this room, please make sure that you book enough hours to give yourself time to set it up for your event (such as putting out tables and chairs, or setting up projectors). And, importantly, please ensure that you give yourself enough time to put everything away - and leave the room in a clean and tidy condition by the end of your hire period - and ready for the next user. 

Failure to leave the room on time - and in a clean and tidy condition - may result in a £20 charge.

Weir Room

This is a large, ground floor room which can accommodate up to 40 people. It has tables and chairs to accommodate up to 40 people. It also features a pull-down projection screen - and the hall also has a projector for hire (at a cost of £5.00). Chairs are kept stacked in a buit-in storage cupboard at the rear of the room. A small cloakroom / cupboard is available in the hallway outside the Weir Room. This room has disabled access.

Castle Room

This is a pleasant and quiet first floor room, suitable for meetings and presentations (it is equipped with a 65" interactive smart television set).  A hearing loop system has also been installed.  Tables and chairs are available, to accommodate up to 40 people. There is a small kitchen next to the Castle Room, suitable for preparing teas, coffees and drinking water. Cups and glasses available in the small kitchen, which also has a small fridge. The kitchen is also suitable for small-scale food preparation (but there is a bigger kitchen on the ground floor, available for the preparation of more extensive buffets etc). There is no easy disabled access to the first floor of the Old Church Rooms. The room is light and airy - and measures xx by xx feet. There is no lift to the first floor.

Chain Room

This is a small meeting room on the first floor. It is equipped with tables and chairs for up to 12 people with. The room also has a projector-screen - and a projector can also be hired (at a cost of £5.00). The Community Council's clerk's office is based in an annex to this room, which limits the availability of the Chain Room. There is also a small kitchen on the first floor, suitable for preparing teas, coffees and drinking water. Cups and glasses available in the small kitchen, which also has a small fridge. The kitchen is also suitable for small-scale food preparation (but there is a bigger kitchen on the ground floor, available for the preparation of more extensive buffets etc). There is no easy disabled access to the first floor of the Old Church Rooms. There is no lift to the first floor.

Main kitchen

This is on the ground floor. It has recently been modernised and upgraded, to a professional standard. It has a large oven and a wide range of equipment to help with the preparation and storage of food. The kitchen also has generous supply of crockery and cutlery. Formal hire and payment for the kitchen is required only for those intending to use it to cook and prepare substantial amounts of food - or where exclusive use of the kitchen is required. Use of the kitchen is free to all others - if all you intend to do is prepare cups of tea and coffee - or plate up sandwiches (etc) prepared elsewhere. There is disabled access to the kitchen.
