We are a group of people who believe that poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful, and if you enjoy poetry you are welcome to join us.
We base our meetings around a poet, theme or poetic form. Poets are usually introduced by individual members of the group: over the last year we have explored a variety of poets including Milton, Seamus Heaney, Gillian Clarke and WH Auden. Sometimes we have group sessions on a particular theme (e.g. refugees, childhood etc) or on a poetic form (such as the sonnet). No special knowledge or skills are required, just a passion for poetry.
“Poetry is ordinary language raised to the nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words.” - Paul EngleA U3A interest group
